O Postive Blood Donors.......

YAY!!!! Through all of last weeks events we were able to determine Cannon's blood type! The results are...... O Positive. I have talked to the nurse at Texas Children's and she has informed me of the details in order to "Direct Donate" for Cannon's transfusion.

We will only need 3 but no more than 4 donors for Cannon. All donors must be O Positive. The orders are with the Gulf Coast Blood Bank and the donation time could take up to one hour, so an appointment is required.  The donation has to be made on 7/3/12, no ealier or later.

If you are O Positive and you would like to donate your time and blood for Cannon's tranfusion please let me know and I can schedule an appointment time for you.

WOW!!!!!

Wow! It's been a pretty amazing journey and it's only been 2 days. As mentioned in the last post, the surgery was cancelled and then rescheduled for today, 6/21/12 at 6:30.

We arrived on the 17th floor at 6:30 and they called us to the 18th floor immediately. Cannon was a little upset since he remembered the events from the heart cath a couple of months ago. Vitals were taken and the relaxation meds were administered. The meds were tough to get down but he did it.

While we waited for the team to come and take Cannon to the OR the surgeons nurse and surgeon stopped in to tell us that they would have to postpone the surgery once more. Yes, that is right for the second time now the surgery has been cancelled.

As a part of Cannon's corrective surgery they may or may not have to replace a valve. This particular valve was not readily available for Cannon. Therefore, the surgeon was not comfortable continuing with the surgery and we completely agreed.

The surgery was rescheduled for July 6th and Preop on the 5th.

Just a portion of "Cannon's Calvary"

We thank you all for your continued prayers and ask that you keep them coming. God has perfect timing and great plans. We are blessed with a top surgeon who does not want to stand in the way of God's obstacles. He mentioned that he has been running into obstacles every since they started preparing for Cannon's surgery and he did not feel comfortable continuing with the procedure without all their ducks in a row.

Thank you all again for your continued support.

Roller coaster continues.....

Today is June 20th. All day we have been thinking of what we have been doing if the surgery had not been rescheduled. Such as, swimming in the pool all morning.
As of 11:15 we talked to the scheduler again and were informed that the surgery would not be done tomorrow (Thursday 6/21/12) and Fr. Fraser would be out of town next week so he does not want to perform such an extensive surgery and then not be here for the recovery time. So we were able to conclude that it would not be for at least another week or so. So we decided to inform family members so they could decide to travel back to their homes. We also decided we would head home too.

All loaded and checked out of the hotel about 2:30. Headed down Fannin and didn't make it to Hwy 59 before we got another call from the scheduler. They want to schedule the surgery for tomorrow (Thursday 6/21/12) at 6:30am. WOW!! Is all we could say. I asked for a few minutes to talk it over with Marc and we were informed that the most critical time after surgery are the first 24 hours. Dr Fraser will be available for that time and some on Saturday. That was comforting. We prayed and asked God if this was not His will then please close the door again. We called back and decided to go ahead with it.

Now we re back at the hotel and the boys are winding down. Cannon too the roller coaster ride well. He was happy that the surgery was cancelled and I was afraid he wouldn't take the rescheduling too good but God revealed Himself once more through Cannon. We told him and he said "OK".

As always thank you all for your continuous prayers!!!!

Pre op completed and roller coaster began......

We finished the pre op yesterday afternoon. Cannon is completely healthy and ready for surgery.

Although we have worked for a couple of weeks gearing up for the BIG day, it seems that God has different plans for us. I received a phone call yesterday 6/19/12 around 6 pm from the surgeons scheduler and they have an emergency that has come up and our surgery has been cancelled. It was definitely a mixed set of emotions. A small sense of relief but then a bit saddened knowing how much we have prepared to get to this point. In the big scheme of things we are really curious to see what God has in store for us. We also pray that the other family who needed the surgery today, will be blessed by it.

As for today we are sitting and waiting to hear from the hospital on when we will be rescheduled. It could be Friday or it could be a month from now. Cannon is excited to have another day to play in the pool at the hotel. Any hotel is a "vacation" for him and his brother.

We will continue to keep everyone posted as we are informed.

Thank you all for your continuous prayers. Praying God's will is what I desire and it is being done, even with the change in plans.

In His Love,

Moving Right Along

The BIG day is quickly approaching. I say it over and over, but it is amazing how fast time goes. WOW!! Cannon and Colton have both moved up in their classes. Cannon graduated kindergarten and Colton graduated from the 3's class.

The year definitely flew right past us. It seems just like yesterday we were registering Cannon in the toddler room at Lamb Of God and Colton in the nursery. They are both excited to be moving on to the 1st grade and PreK.

Both boys have really been enjoying the time at the pools this summer with Nana and Grandpa. They are true water lovers. It is in their blood, just like their Papa. Cannon has been swimming so well and Colton is really beginning to get brave. We are trying to let Cannon get as much swimming in before the BIG day arrives, since the remainder of his summer will be in recovery mode.

We talked with Cannon about the surgery last week and he took the news fairly well. I think we prepped him pretty good for the heart cath with the idea that there was a chance the dr's could fix his heart so he would be able to play baseball. Being able to roll that into the surgery conversation made things a little easier. He has been asking questions which we expected from him and thankfully not many that we haven't been able to answer for him. It is also nice letting him lead us with how much we say by the questions he asks. He didn't like the idea of having to drink the "yucky sleepy medicine" or the idea that we would have to leave him with the nurses again. Unfortunately, we only wanted to allow him a couple of weeks for it to gel in his little brain but we have ended up with three. The day after we told him Texas Children's called to reschedule the date due to the surgeon being ill. The original date was scheduled for June 12th which has now been moved to June 20th. We will arrive at TCH on the 19th at 8AM for the pre op day and then return on the 20th at 6 AM for the actual surgery to begin.

As for the blood donations I mentioned in the last post, we have had a hard time determining Cannon's blood type. I still do not have this information to share. However, I am sure you can still direct donate in his name at the Gulf Coast Blood Bank and if it is his type they will use it. If not, I am certain there are other children or even adults that you are compatible with that could use the gift. The date of donation will change to June 16th. The donation must be taken 3 days prior to surgery, no sooner and no later for it to be used for Cannon's transfusion.

We still find ourselves with great peace as we come closer to the actual day. My prayer for the whole family is that we will glorify God through all. That this trial will bring us closer to God as well as those who witness the hand of God in Cannon's life. We have already seen this taking place, as we experienced a "Prayer Party" for Cannon at church. Seeing so many believers come together to pray for Cannon was such a heartwarming event. It really touched our hearts and we are so thankful to be part of such a loving, caring, and compassionate body of Christ. It is so sweet to be a part of such a loving FAMILY.
